What's in a name....

DiddyHe has been known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Sean John, Puff, and Puffy, but as of September 2006 just call him Diddy…..except in Europe.  It looks as though Sean Combs has upset the “Diddy” of Europe a.k.a. Richard “Diddy” Dearlove.  Richard, credited with the dance remix of Blondie’s “Atomic” back in the 90s, filed a lawsuit for unfair competition claiming confusion.  The case never made it to the High Court since Sean Combs agreed to drop the “Diddy” name in the U.K and pay “significant damages”.  Let Richard’s words on being “Diddy” leave an impression on others who consider name changing an art (hint – J.Lo, Prince):

“It doesn’t matter how big people become.  This is my name.  I’ve been successful too.  I’m not a global megastar, but what I do is valid.”
