RUFF -- SIT, FETCH AND FINALLY, ROLL OVER!

WILL THE REAL NEW YORKIE (YORKEY) PLEASE SIT, FETCH AND FINALLY, ROLL OVER!

It seems that the claimed owner of a trademark has a "bone" to pick with Libby Pataki, the wife of the governor of New York. It seems that Elly McGuire has a Yorkshire Terrier which she photographs dressed up in various costumes (ie. humiliating doggie togs) for her line of greeting cards "NEW YORKIE GREETINGS." See, USPTO Serial Nos. 78532088, 78357369 and 76549403.

The real dog fight began when New York’s first lady co-authored a childrens book featuring a terrier named "New Yorkey" and began negotiating licenses for "New Yorkey" themed products. That’s when McGuire called in the hounds or er... legal beagles. Calm may return to the world of commercial canine characters as Libby Pataki has offered not to licence the terrific terrier from her book or feature the canine critter in future books. So it seems that all is well in the land of domestic doggiedom. Wow I didn’t realize that a Yorkie was part pit bull!!
