NYC Files For New Slogan
Findlaw.com reports NYC Seeks to Trademark a New Slogan
Instead of "The Big Apple," The City of New York would like to be known as

The trademark application status is here. If you're interested in seeing the actual correspondence between the City and the USPTO, the new TDR is a great way. Just enter the serial number (78484751) and you can see the file wrapper (or trademark history, for those of you who don't speak leagalese).
Why the city would want to change the slogan is beyond me. The findlaw.com article suggests it may be related to the Olympic bid. I certainly don't know anyone who can afford a second home in New York City.
