celebrity gossip - intellectual property style

from the "Tattle" section of philly.com:

According to the San Francisco Chronicle's "Daily Dish," Christina Aguilera has applied to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, to add her name to 450 products, including Christina crayons, badminton sets and deodorant.

Says Christinasource (patent pending): "There is so much money in merchandising, it would be a waste if Christina didn't launch products.

"She has a shrewd business brain and has come up with a lot of these ideas herself."

The registration (Ser. No.  78378962) is for the mark "Christina Aguilera" naturally.

It is not unusual for celebrities to register their names, see for example Madonna (for entertainment and lingerie), Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jennifer Lopez.
