Knowledge is power: saving on drugs

Another example of how the Internet is promoting a free economy by allowing market participants to be fully informed.

New York attorney general, Eliot Spitzer has a new web site publishing prescription drug prices in New York.  www.NYAGRx.org allows comparison shopping at your fingertips.  Additionally, those without computer access can call 800-771-7755 and choose option 3 to get the same information.

One example: in the Binghamton area, 250 mg of Lamisil ranged from $250 to $372.

Unfortunately, the web site is limited to about 170 pharmacies in New York.  The good news for the rest of us is that some of those pharmacies are national chains.

Maybe this will start a nation-wide trend, allowing customers to have full knowledge of drug prices before spending too much.
