HIGHER PATENT OFFICE FEES?
Interesting press release from the Patent Office Professional Association (POPA) regarding the "U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Fee Modernization Act" (H.R. 1561). According to the POPA, outsourcing prior art searches used during patent examination is inefficient and costly as compared to continuing the current practice where Examiners conduct each patent search. POPA advocates amendments to H.R. 1561 that eliminate the outsourcing of prior art searches.
